Cherry Lake Carp become ‘very French’

Monday 25 July 2016

Last week was very hot at Cherry Lakes. Great for sun-bathing and fish spotting but much trickier for fishing, especially during the day.

In fact Monday and Tuesday were the hottest days of the year so far, we recorded 33C. Typical given we had a team from Total Carp visiting to produce a fishing article. I was delighted to hear that they caught three Carp in very difficult conditions from Cherry Lake including fish of 29lb and 21lb. It looked for a while that they would blank, hardly the material for a fishing ‘head to head’. I think the article will appear in September or more likely Octobers issue so please keep your eyes open for it.

The Carp that were feeding became ‘very French’ last week as they seemed to feed mainly during the night or very early in the morning. Graeme Tooth who was visiting from Scotland for the first time and was staying in the Cottage, did particularly well. He landed 4 Carp. All of his fish came through the night including this splendid Common of 27-08 and Mirror of 20-06 (this Carp has a tremendous tail which I hope is the sign of things to come for this lovely fish) pictured below.

Paul Kirkbride fishing in Osprey Lodge also did well with this lovely Ghost Mirror of 27-08. Well done to both Paul and Graeme.
