Cherry Pool

Cherry Pool is an amazing lake, In short it is a terrific mixed fishery, a delightful place to stay, contains some great fish, and is a real pleasure to fish. At just under an acre it is the smallest lake on the Cherry Lakes complex. It is also the deepest with depths to over 17 feet, and has a history of fishing well throughout the year and in particular the winter. Anglers are rarely disappointed when they fish here.

Cherry Pool is available exclusively to anglers who have booked Egret Lodge throughout their stay. The large artificial grass fishing platform is situated less than 8 feet from the entrance to the Lodge. All areas of the lake can be easily reached from this deck. It also neatly divides the lake into two. So if there are two of you fishing there is no need to argue!

Cherry Pool is a heavily stocked mixed fishery. It contains some 200+ Carp  well as specimen Bream to 12lb, Roach to 3lb, Rudd to 2lb, Crucian Carp to 4lb, Tench to 8lb, and Perch to 3lb+.

The Carp are typically 10-15lb, with the lake containing some 20lb+ Commons up to high 20’s. The biggest Carp reported in 2014 being a 28lb Common. the ghost carp also grow over 20lb as you can see from the photo elsewhere on this page.

Big catches of Carp and Bream are regularly reported by our guests. The record for one weekend is over 55 Carp in a weekend along with  a similar number of Bream! The heavier you feed pellets, boilies and spod mix the more you will catch!

Fish care and safety is paramount across Cherry Lakes. An approach welcomed by all good anglers who want to catch high quality good conditioned Carp. All anglers are expected to follow any advice or requests from the fishery management concerning fish safety.

All Lodges and the Cottage are provided with Carp Cradles, a 42″ Landing Net and a Weigh Sling,  so no need to fill up the car with these, and avoid the wet fishy smells on the way back from your holiday!  All Carp caught must be photographed over the Carp Cradle and returned to the water in the weigh sling.

The new Egret Lodge opened in April 2015 and has a large comfortable fishing platform which is covered with artificial grass. Our experience is that anglers love fishing on this surface as it is always, clean, comfortable and good on the eye. This platform can easily accommodate two anglers with the lake easily being ‘divided into half’. Both sides are equally good so no squabbling about which side to fish!

Cherry Pool is an all methods fishery and responds well to Float and Pole fishing as well as most forms of ledgering and feeder fishing. The Carp are regularly caught using the above methods providing they are carefully ‘played’, but are best targeted using normal Carp fishing tactics and tackle. In the summer floater fishing can be both very exciting and rewarding.

The new Lodge is fitted to Cherry Lakes high quality standards, and has a separate bedroom along with a comfortable sofa bed and can sleep  up to 4 people. As well as a fully fitted Kitchen and bathroom, it also has a large TV and DVD player. WiFi will be available on request. See accommodation section for more details on the Lodge.

Total Coarse Fishing magazine ran a very informative article last year on this lake, please Click Here for more unbiased information. You will see  we are not exaggerating about the quality of the fishing at Cherry Pool.

If you are Carp fishing the minimum line strength is 15lb. If however you are targeting other species lighter lines are permitted. At all times hooks are to be barbless and fish safety is paramount.

As well as the normal Carp Cradle, Weigh Sling and 42″ Carp Landing net, we also provide a 20″ pan telescopic Landing net for those anglers targeting the Bream, Roach and Perch. So no need to bring any nets or unhooking mats. As most of your fishing is likely to be from the Lodge platform you will need your rod pod.

The edges of the pool contain a wonderful array of plants, Norfolk Reeds and Yellow Flagged Irises, as well as a wide variety of trees from Willows and Alders to Yews and Wellingtonia. All of which are a pleasure on the eye.

Cherry Pool guests are uniquely able to park their cars in the area behind the Lodge. A real advantage if you are bringing lots of tackle! Other guests using the Cherry Lake Lodges have to return their cars to the car park after unloading.
