New Kingfisher and Cottage swims

Making the most of winter to prepare for the year ahead!
Saturday 12 January 2019

As promised I thought I would share with you some photos showing the fruits of our labour on the new Cottage swim and Kingfisher’s fishing platform.

The Cottage swim is the only swim across the Cherry Lake complex where guests require bivvies. It has become increasingly apparent that the previous barked area was not big enough, as some of the mega two man continental style bivvies, seemed to overlap in several directions… and that was before two people with big bivvies want to share the swim.

The new Cottage swim is seriously bigger and more comfortable!

In response, as I hope you can see by the photo where the picnic bench might give an idea of scale, we have over doubled the bivvy area. This way two anglers should be able to more comfortably put up their individual bivvies as well as some of the monsters fitting in! It will be interesting to see what our guests think when the Cottage re-opens in February. It is currently closed because we are replacing and upgrading the main Cottage bathroom during January.

An even bigger job was re-building Kingfisher’s fishing platform. The final job this week was to finish off the front of the fishing platform. As you can see we have enlarged the fishing area with the elliptical shape. This enlargement and shape means that when feasible three anglers could comfortably fish from this deck. As you can see fishery manager Dave is very pleased with the result. After a break of nearly two months Kingfisher Lodge and Cherry Mere is open for business again!

As you can see in the background we have had to do a lot of tree work. Over the next month we will be planting some 20 new small trees and about 100 shrubs. The aim is to make the opposite river bank a variety of colour and beautiful to look at throughout the year.

The last major job outstanding is the new website. Given I am snowed under with other things at the moment, so I will be surprised if we go live before Easter. Watch this space!

Our bookings for the year ahead are going well. We are again ahead of the same time last year. So if you are thinking of booking, please let as know as soon as you can to avoid disappointment! Please e-mail us at info@cherrylakes.co.uk if you want to check dates or call on 01285 869887.
