Ryan Jenkins scores again!

Friday 9 March 2018

Ryan Jenkins is a regular winter guest at Cherry Lakes and up to this trip (his third) he had never blanked before. He always targets the first week in March and previously has done well with multiple captures to  29-15  in 2017 and 26-00 in 2016 (pictured below).

This year he realised he was very much up against it as he arrived just as the ‘beast from the east’ left!  Although the day temperatures have been very pleasant during the day, Cherry Lake refroze briefly overnight on Tuesday when we had a light frost. This simply shows me how cold the water is.

Well I am delighted to report that at 09.25 this morning he had his first bite of his visit and landed this lovely 25-15 Cherry Lake Common. It kept his record of catching on every visit. This is the first Carp from Cherry Lake since January and we were delighted to see it in the net. Surprisingly the Carp was as ‘clean as a whistle’ with no leeches present. I managed two nice Pike from a nearby water early this morning. these were covered in leeches suggesting the Pike have only just started moving too!

With an excellent short term weather forecast for the next week, warm and southerly winds (which will help to turn the water over and help warm it up quicker), we are hopeful of seeing a pick up in catches slowly from now on. Over the next few weeks, we would expect to see the first 30′s of the Spring to be caught and we are very interested to see how they have over-wintered and whether their weights look like they are up or not.

Personally I would love to be jumping into the empty Lodges over the next few weeks, but frustratingly I have still got a few weeks left on my current contract, so I will have to leave it to others!
