27-04 of winter magic as Cherry Lake turns on!

Firstly an apology for my ‘radio silence’. As some of you know I have been working away for a while which coupled with the building programme has meant I have been flat out. I will try to do better!
I think all the construction work has scared off a lot of prospective visitors this winter which is a shame given both Cherry Lake and Cherry Spring has been producing over the last month. At least the Carp have had a good rest. The good news is that the Lodges are largely finished and we have restored the road and car parks. We are now down to the finishing touches and planting and will be opening both of the new Pochard and Egret Lodges on Friday 20th March. I will post a photo or two of the new Lodges soon.
Over the last few weeks some 25 Carp to 18lb have been reported by three different visitors to Cherry Springs confirming again that this is a good winter water. With the water clearer than normal at this time of the year, it has been fascinating to see the Carp in 3-4 feet of water just off the bank opposite Kingfisher. This bank has some gravel patches as well as catches the sun for most of the day. I think the fish move into these areas as they are a little warmer. We have seen some big Carp which we are excited about and very much hope that they will be caught this year as I am sure they will break the lake record and possibly go beyond the magic 30lb barrier. Some of our visitors will be in for a nice surprise.
Cherry Lake has been producing slowly but steadily and mainly to Dave Bowen the fishery manager who has taken advantage of empty Lodges to ‘get his rods out’. Some 10 Carp have seen the bank over the last couple of weeks including this stunning Mirror below of 27-04. I was just sad not to be here again to see such a beautiful Carp! The successful tactics are high visibility pop ups and our Cherry Lakes special red boilies tipped with fake corn.
