A great first visit to Cherry Lake Cottage for the Suggitt brothers

Andy Watts 37lb linear is a real stunner
Monday 22 September 2025

Cherry Lake is what I would call a 'proper' Carp lake. It is rarely easy and can at times be very difficult. It does however tend to respond to good anglers, who work hard to locate the Carp and tempt them into feeding and making a mistake.

I want to start with good friend Andy Watts who last week had this absolute stunner. A linear mirror of 37lb. What a cracking fish. A Carp to lead any Latest News update. My favourite single fish photo of the year.

The Suggitt family visited Cherry Lakes for the first time and stayed in The Cottage last week, with brothers Peter and James fishing from the Cottage swim. Unusually for our visitors, they decided to spod to several different locations having spent some time feeling around the bottom with their marker rods. A tactic which clearly worked for them.

They did not spend all their time fishing as they had 'promised' a day out to their better halves. Cunningly however they chose to do this early on, and were on 'fishing days and in the swim' when the wind became a strong southerly. Normally good conditions for the Cottage....... and so it proved!

Peter Suggitt was last week's top rod landing 5 Carp including 3 x 30's+. He also had a 29-10 Common and a stunning Ghost Mirror of 17-10. Peter's three thirties are all featured in this update. He landed a lovely trio of a 33-12 Common, a 32-11 Mirror and a 30-03 Fully Scaled Mirror.

The brothers baited heavily and frequently. The 'Haulin pack', which they comfortably got through, gave them plenty of ammunition to get the Carp feeding. Cherry Red being the boilie and flavour of choice

Jamie Suggitt. 39-04 L
Jamie Suggitt with his new PB and the biggest carp of last week. Pac-man at 39-04

Peter clearly set the pace in terms of the number of Carp. Brother Jamie kept smiling and appeared relaxed at not catching. Confidence, which, as it turned out, was well placed, as he landed the biggest Carp of the week and a new PB. As you can see he had 'Pac-man' at 39-04. I am still struggling with my new computer, so I cannot be sure if this is its biggest weight or not. It appears to be growing steadily so hopefully (even though it is a male fish) it will be 40+ by the Spring.

Well done to Peter, Jamie and Andy.
