Andy Watts lands our 7th different 40+ of the year
John Higgins sets a new lake record for a Ghost Common at 40-08
Tuesday 27 May 2025
An exciting week on Cherry Lake with plenty of big Carp being caught from Cherry Lake.
Good friend Andy Watts finished his last visit in style over the weekend when he caught the second 40+ of his trip. As you can see in my last post he landed the lake's biggest Ghost Mirror at 43-08. This weekend he went 4oz better with the 43-12 Mirror below.
Andy during his session he landed 2 x 40's and from memory a further 5 x 30's including this very distinctive Mirror of 34-08 above. As far as I could tell, all of the bigger female fish caught did not look like they had spawned, and hence were carrying some extra weight.

A quick word about our recently introduced 'house only' boilies policy. Whilst it is too early to be sure, I am beginning to see signs that the Carp are doing well on our new boilies, and especially the Cherry Red fishmeal. The Carp are very obviously feeding on the bait and are preferring it to other otherings where they have a choice.
As a result we have also started to introduce our new Cherry Tuna fishmeal. The Carp recognise this second new boilie almost immediately as food and have been readily feeding on this new addition to the range. Going forwards I expect to see many of our guests choosing to feed both of these boilies at the same time as a very 'sexy mixed offering'.

John and David Higgins returned to Cherry Lake and also did very well landing 4 Carp over 30lb's. I was very pleased to receive a call at 05.00 on the Thursday morning saying they had a 45lb+ Carp in the net. 'Keep it in the retainer I mumbled, I am on my way'. As someone who distrusts digital scales, I grabbed one of our Reubon Heaton scales and made a beeline for Osprey Lodge. I weighed this stunning Ghost Common at 40-08. A new lake record for a Ghost Common for Cherry Lake. John made the local 'Tackle Den's' day when he went to them to buy his own set of Reuben's!
The big Common, our 6th different 40+ of 2025, was unfortunately too heavy for captor John to hold and present properly. A dodgy back meaning he is unable to safely lift a fish as big as this to 'full presentation height'. As you can see, I was more than happy to stand in for John.

Harry Rock visited us for the first time last weekend staying in the Cottage. He and his family very much enjoyed themselves and a great weekend was topped by this chunky Mirror known as 'Apple Slice' which he weighed in at 38-04.
Harry sent me a very complimentary email after his stay and is already planning his return. We look forward to seeing them again.
