Chris Lawson makes it 4 30′s in a week!
Friday 5 May 2017
Chris Lawson has been staying in Grebe Lodge on Cherry Lake for the first time this week with his wife Rachel. In a normal week his return of 5 Carp including a PB Mirror of 30-04 would have been enough for him to be top rod, but he was beaten by Paul Silence (see previous post). So to be fair to both Chris and Ken O Connor who fished in Heron Lodge I have split the update.
Chris’s 30-04 Mirror came from the shallows where he fished small wafters over a bed of crushed boilies and sweetcorn. Indeed this was the tactic used I believe for 4 of his 5 Carp. The big Carp cam on Thursday morning when the larger fish went on the feed all around the lake. Chris was very pleased to join the 30+ club and to receive his club polo t shirt.
As stated in my last update surprisingly Grebe Lodge is available for Monday 08-12 May and Monday 15-19 may. Call 01285 869887 if you fancy a late break on Cherry Lake.
Unlike newcomer Chris, Ken o’ Connor is one of our long term regular guests. Ken is a good angler who normally works out how to catch the Cherry Lake Carp. This trip Ken managed 6 Carp and just missed out on Thursday morning from being the third different angler to land a thirty on the same morning. His cracking Common was weighed in by fishery manager Dave at 29-12!
I do not want to give the impression that Cherry Lake is easy. It is worth pointing out that no fish were caught between Monday and Wednesday mid-day. I am not sure why, as there was no obvious change in weather conditions or air pressure, but the Carp switched on and the good anglers present took advantage of it. Unusually no carp were lost and this also showed in the results.
