Great December winter fishing on Cherry Springs
Wishing a Happy Christmas to you and your loved ones
Monday 22 December 2025
I would like to start this last update of the year by wishing you and your loved ones a very Happy Christmas. If you are a past guest of Cherry Lakes you should already have received our Christmas email, which included a short update on the year. Just in case you did not get it, I will cover some of the main points within my planned New Year update.
We have had some good captures by the few guests that have been here. Proving the old adage, that you cannot catch when ‘your rods are hung up’, and ‘you have to be in it…….to win it’!
Cherry Springs has been the star, in part because it has been regularly fished throughout December. I am sure the other lakes would have done well had they been fished regularly. In fact the catch returns from Cherry Springs during December has been more like the catches you would hope for in the summer!
All of our visitors since the end of November have caught well. I cannot remember the details, but Toby Moran got things going with a productive weekend visit, which included this beautiful 32lb Mirror pictured below.
Adam and Lil Johnson fished the following weekend and managed 15 Carp between them. Including 6 over 20lb. Adam is pictured below with a Bonny 22lb Mirror. The Cherry Lakes house boilies, principally Banoffee and Caramel Cream have been the winners this month. Single baits fished amongst a catapulted spread of 10-20 boilies, has been the lead tactic winning tactic.
Young Lewis and Jack, who sometimes give us a hand around the fishery, enjoyed a freebie. They also caught well with 10+ Carp over the weekend including this 25lb Mirror below.
Barry and Richard Blackman were the last guest of the year last week on Cherry Springs. They purchased a Session deal and increased the level of food, as the Carp in Cherry Springs were clearly active. They both did well, sharing 14 Carp including 5 twenties, plus the fantastic 32-04 Mirror pictured in the lead photo above. Richard is pictured below with a 22-08 Mirror. He delegated the photo duties to his son Barry, when he caught the biggest one of their trip, as It was simply too heavy for him to hold!
It was good to hear from all anglers that the Carp were all in good condition and fought well.
It is quite neat to start and finish the December fishing with two 32lb Mirrors. Whilst both are he heavily scaled you can see they are different Carp.
It is a shame that we did not have more anglers fishing through December, as it was clear that the mild weather got the Carp feeding again. We had three nights of heavy frosts towards the end of November which clearly slowed the Carp down for about a week. The warm, windy and wet weather throughout December, was enough to increase water temperatures and get then going. I am pleased to report, not surprisingly given the weather, that the lake water levels are back to normal.
The absence of anglers, and the conditions, meant we had to regularly feed the lacks throughout the month. This is not something I recollect doing before.
I just want to finish by covering a couple of key points which I have covered before, but are worth repeating.
If you are making plans for 2026 during the Christmas/New Year break, please remember we are always open for’ on-line quotes and bookings’. There is no need to wait until you have the chance to speak to us.
My regular Latest News updates are not as regular as they used to be! We do post regularly on our Facebook page which is open to all. We also have an exclusive Facebook group for past and booked guests, called ‘Beyond The Gates’. This page normally gets updates first and has more insights into what is going on here at Cherry Lakes. So if you qualify it is well worth requesting ‘membership of this page’.
Have a great Christmas and best wishes from all of us here at Cherry Lakes.
