Malcom Williams breaks his PB twice

Roger Westwood has a great brace of 25lb+ Ghosties from Cherry Mere
Tuesday 12 July 2022

As I mentioned briefly in my update yesterday, I have just returned from a week’s fishing in France. I have fished this lake before and caught some good Carp. This time it was absolutely a camping trip and a Big Blank! Conditions were tough and the lake had been fishing poorly for a while.
I did feel for the lake owner who tried to stay positive during the week as I fully understand undertaking ‘the walk of shame’ when anglers are struggling. Judith says it was good for me and that I will be able to much better empathise with any of our Cherry Lake guests who also experience a blank.

I did miss some good captures whilst I was away. Our lakes fished well in the conditions. I am a little light on details and photos, typical for the week’s when I am not on-site.

Just in case you missed the last update Given low water levels and a long summer ahead, to maintain water quality and look after our Carp, we have temporarily banned all Spod Mix and Hempseed until at least 03 September.

Grandad and Grandma Williams with Luke and great grandchild Martha. What a lovely photo!
I love this family shot of 4 generations of the William's family. Grandson Luke is holding Malcolm's 30-06 Mirror.

The Williams family are always welcome guests have have been visiting Cherry Lakes regularly over the last 8 years. This time Malcolm and Sylvia were accompanied by mad keen Carper Grandson Luke as well as Great Granddaughter Martha.

Malcolm was over the moon catching his first Cherry Lake 30+, a Mirror of 30-06,. I love the photo above of the full team where Luke is holding Malcolm’s first PB of the trip. He then on the Thursday caught another personal best a Common of 34lb. Luke also got into the action with this lovely heavily scaled Mirror of 33lb pictured in the lead photo above.

Kevin and Janet Lane are also long term regular guests. Kevin also had a good time on Cherry Lake last week landing 7 Carp, also including his new PB, a cracking heavily scaled Mirror of 35-02. He was absolutely over the moon and delighted when Dave presented him with his 35+ hoody. This Carp last features in my 30's catalogue in June 2021 when caught by Chris Pollock at 32-04.

Nice one Kev!

I have no doubt missed some captures of 30lb+ Carp over the last month and my 30’s+ catalogue is not as comprehensive as I would like. However I am delighted to say that all three of the ‘Williams’s family’ Carp featured here are new additions to the 2022 catalogue. Our running total for the year is now 56.

We have the following dates available over the next few months

Monday 01-05 August. Grebe Lodge on Cherry Lake

Friday 05-08 August. Heron Lodge on Cherry Lake

Friday 12-15 August. Heron Lodge on Cherry Lake

Monday 05-09 September. Osprey Lodge on Cherry Lake

Monday 03-07 October. Heron and Grebe Lodges.

Roger Westwood recently completed a week in Pochard Lodge. He landed 19 Carp including I think 7 x 20’s+, the highlights of which were these two Ghost Commons of 25-07 and 27-03. Very impressive, and unsurprisingly he is planning on returning again next year.
