Mark Coates fantastic first trip on Cherry Lake
The Spooners land 43 Carp from Cherry Springs in one weekend.
Sunday 3 August 2025
I am glad to say that the fishing across the complex has been good this weekend and especially on Cherry Lake and Cherry Springs.
Mark Coates has been on his first visit to Cherry Lakes and has been staying in Grebe Lodge. His timing was excellent because the wind has been gently pushing into his bank, and there were plenty of Carp visible in his swim throughout the weekend.
Mark visited with his wife Allison who very much helped to land the 34lb Common pictured in the lead photo above. She played it all the way in.......not bad for your first Carp!

Mark took full advantage of the conditions, and used the Cherry Red Session Pack, to land 7 Carp including a Common's of 34-02, 39-11 and a Mirror of 43lb, along with 4 x 20’s to 29lb.
The big Common came on Friday early evening, whilst the 43lb Mirror showed up some 24 hours later. I have a new desk top computer arrangement which I am trying to get used to. I am struggling with my photos, so I have been unable to do any checks against this year’s 30+, but I am fairly sure this is it's first time out this year.
Mark's biggest of the weekend was the 43-02 Mirror above, and was Mark's second UK PB of his trip. This is one of our biggest Carp and came in at a relatively low weight, typical of this time of the year. Normally the carp will now go on the feed into the autumn and they should all put on a few pounds! Maybe the switch on this weekend was the start of this feeding spell?

The Spooner brothers , Kane and Luke had a fantastic weekend on Cherry Springs when fishing from Kingfisher Lodge. They shared some 41 Carp between them including over a dozen twenties.
They caught from all over the lake including the often over-looked siltier middle areas of the lake. They also fished with a Cherry Red Session Pack. This is the second big hit in a week from Cherry Springs, with the previous guests also catching over 20 Carp.

Very unusually we have a week in Kingfisher Lodge in September currently available, notably 12-15 September and 15-19 September. This is due to a major admin cock-up on my part. I had been holding this date for a regular guest but had completely forgotten that they had cancelled. Given September is pretty much full across the site, and how many people we have disappointed by not having any availability, I am confident these two dates will not take too long to be booked. Please either use the on-line booking process or call on 01285 869887 if you want to book.
From my perspective it is great to see Cherry Springs bounce back from a worrying spell. A few weeks ago the ammonia levels in the lake were a lot higher than normal which caused the fish to go off the feed. Indeed we had to regretfully close the lake for 10 days. Clearly this was the right thing to do.
