Mike Harris lands the biggest Carp of the year at 37-04

Sunday 21 May 2017

A good week and weekend across the Cherry Lakes complex with most anglers catching. On the smaller lakes, Clive King’s 5 Crucians to 3lb from Egret Lodge on Cherry Pool was the most notable for me.

Cherry Lake has fished well for the last couple of weeks, with small pop-ups and boilies increasingly doing the business.

Pride of place goes to Mike Harris who spent the weekend here at the end of a period of recuperation. Mike was on a return visit to Cherry Lakes with his wife Jo. A good way if you ask me of preparing oneself to going back to work. Mike landed two upper twenties, the first was a 28-02 Mirror Carp which is a PB Mirror for Mike, and then a 27-14 Ghost  Common Carp (pictured below) also a PB Ghost carp. . He then followed these two crackers with the biggest Carp of the year so far, a Common of 37-04. This Carp also sets an overall PB for Mike. This Common, like many of our bigger Carp is over 4lb up in  weight on this time last year and we think it is a male fish!

Mike was very pleased with his Polo shirt and to have become the latest member of the Cherry Lake 30+ club. Well done Mike on catching some fantastic Carp.

Paul Blake is another regular who has just had a very successful trip. Paul was staying with his wife Rachael and new son Dalton in Heron Lodge. Baby Dalton is teething and certainly was giving Mum and Dad the run around!  Paul blames Dalton for him forgetting his fishing scales!

Paul caught several cracking Carp, including a good looking a ‘Leather like Mirror’ of 28-00. His first fish was this stunning  heavily scaled Mirror also below. Unfortunately Paul had forgotten his scales and for some reason he did not want to disturb me at 05.00. He knows better now for next time! Rachael could not find anyone else obviously up so the Carp was returned without being weighed. Paul is convinced it was over 30lb (he has caught some 13 Carp above this weight before), but unfortunately for both Paul and us we cannot be sure and Paul is not yet a member of the 30+ club! Do you think it was over 30+?
