Luke Taylor 33-04

Some good Carp caught in an uncertain world.

As I write this latest update, I can hear the news in the background. It is both very depressing and concerning. The USA/Iran war is on-going with both sides blocking the artery of the straits of Hormuz and no obvious end in sight. We have Russian aggressive actions around our shores and not forgetting Ukraine’s brave fight for survival. We also had the British former Secretary General of NATO (Lord Robertson) saying we are chronically unprepared to defend ourselves and we cannot keep on spending huge sums of money on unproductive Welfare payments.

Against this hugely unsettling back drop it is hard to write about fishing and Cherry Lakes. I cannot decide whether it is trite to do so, or it is an escapist retreat to do so? I will let you decide!

Before talking about fishing, and given the potential implications of the above, including not least potential fuel shortages later in the year (diesel, petrol, jet fuel etc), it is worth reminding all our future guests that we recommend you take out travel insurance whenever you book any holiday including any visit to Cherry Lakes. If you are booked to visit, and for whatever reason you cannot make it or cannot get here, you should hopefully be protected by your travel insurance.

Rob Ellis 33lb Nelson
Rob Ellis with a stunning 33lb Common known as ‘Nelson’

We have had some good fish caught since my last update including 5 different 30’s. Luke Taylor had this lovely 33lb+ Ghost Mirror from the Cottage swim, pictured in the lead photo above.

The happiest angler of the last few weeks was young Joe Monk, who visited with Alan Gilles from bait company Kent Particles. Joe was over the moon with his 37lb Mirror which smashed his PB. You can see Joe on our Facebook pahes being ‘binned’ to celebrate his PB. As it was cold, I thought better him than me. Being young he did not care!

Just to show it’s not all about 30’s! Rob with a stunning fully scaled Mirror.

Rob Ellis visited Cherry Lakes for the first time spending a week in Heron Lodge. He did very well and I cannot remember how many he caught. It was comfortably over ten. Several of these were 30+ including this big framed Common known as ‘Nelson’. No prizes for guessing why?……yes it only has one eye!

Rob was a great help in our on-going drive to ‘chip’ all of our Carp under 30lb. I think he contributed 3-4 in-chipped fish, which have now been chipped. One of them I think, was this cracker immediately above.

Jo Ryland 29-06 from Cherry Pool
Jo Ryland with her PB. A superb Mirror of 29-06 from Egret Lodge on Cherry Pool.

Barry and Jo Ryland returned to Egret Lodge after a 8 year break. Jo was the star of the visit catching the largest Carpto set a new PB at 29-06. What a fantastic looking Carp to have as your PB. Well done Jo.
