Spring has well and truely arrived. The Carp are loving it!

The water temperature is already up to 11C
Monday 2 March 2026

Spring has most definitely arrived at Cherry Lakes. The Willows are that lovely light green as their new leaves begin to bud and grow. The Daffodils are putting on their normal show with the Tulips not far behind. Even the grass is beginning to grow. The Carp also have well and truly woken up. A lovely time to be at Cherry Lakes.

The Carp have in truth been more active than normal across the complex since early January because of the mild wet weather. With the water temperature now being over 10C, the Carp are visibly active and are in full Spring mode. As well as the occassional roll and leap, they are regularly fizzing and bubbling.

This weekend catch results very much reflect this.

My favourite Cherry Lake capture of the weekend was the 30-09 Ghost Common caught by Steve Craven in Grebe Lodge pictured above. What a fantastic fish!

The biggest Carp caught (just!) across the complex was this 36-04 Common landed by Sam Baldwin in Osprey Lodge, pictured above. Very pleasingly from my perspective is that this distinctive Common did not show in our January stock audit. It is now in my 2026 30+ catalogue.

Long term regular and good friend Gary Owen returned to Cherry Lakes on Friday and had a cracking weekend, landing 12 Carp, the biggest of which was this (another distinctive fish) 35-02 Common above.

With the Carp now being active we are increasing the levels of feed, and if the water temperature continues to hold or increase it will not be too long before we start feeding our fishmeal boilies. It won't be too long before the Carp really get on the munch as they build towards spawning (presumably in May?).

I am waiting on some photos from Cherry Springs and Cherry Pool (both of which produced well over the weekend), which I will try to include in my next post.
