Wayne Box’s amazing night. A brace of upper 30′s from Cherry Lake

Wayne Box has been staying this weekend in Heron Lodge on Cherry Lake. For the first 36 hours of his stay, other than a few Carp showing towards the far margin, the lake was fairly quiet and Wayne was reporting ‘static bobbins’. This was also the same for the other anglers on the lake.
Saturday night was an amazing one for Wayne. At 23.00 on Saturday night he caught the first of an amazing brace of upper 30′s. The heavily scaled Mirror below weighed in at 35-06 and is another carp which has been caught for the first time above 30lb. If anyone knows differently then please let me know. Not a bad way for Wayne to join the Cherry Lake 30+ club!
At 02.30 on Sunday it got even better for Wayne when he landed this fantastic Mirror below. At 36-10 this big framed Mirror sets this year’s best weight for a Cherry Lake Carp. This Carp is clearly growing as well as getting ready for spawning and is over 2lb up in weight when it was last caught last autumn by John Newby.
I have now got good photos of 8 different thirties from Cherry Lake so far this year ( we have had two other 30lb+ Carp caught but with very poor photos which prevent the carp from being identified). There are at least 10 other known 30lb Carp yet to be caught including the ‘Big Common’, which judging from the weight gain being recorded this year, should be comfortably over the 40lb mark if caught over the next 4 weeks or so. Time as always will tell!
This is the first time that we have had a brace of upper thirties caught from Cherry Lake by one of our guests. A very good achievement for an English fishery. needless to say that Wayne was ‘over the moon’!
Both of these Carp came form different locations approx 50-70 yards out from Heron. Small plateaus around 5 feet deep seemed to be the magic feeding spots. Small pop-ups over crushed boilies tempting two of our larger ladies!
